Artist Notes:
Studio Research SIMPLE KIN POTTERY: Is a line of pottery I've been developing over the last few years as my own expression of folk pottery. I imagine these pieces in cozy beach shacks or country cottages with a contemporary edge — pottery that feels timeless and charming, with a few stylistic details and drawings appearing here and there as small decorative touches.

I have been trying to figure out how to layer glazes with more texture and movement that show just how interesting glazes can be. This piece has layers of a silky crackle matte on the handle that bubbled and crawled a bit at the bottom base and looked like ocean foam washing up on the beach. I liked it and decided to leave it.

Materials & Making:

Translucent porcelain, high-fired to cone 9 (approximately 2,300°F)

Interior and rim finished in a food-safe clear glaze

Exterior features areas of bare porcelain, hand-sanded to a soft, stone-like surface — safe to handle and hold, though not intended for food safe contact

Fully vitrified: microwave and dishwasher safe
